The World Bank Partnership

The World Bank and the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) partnered on 21 November 2022 to promote sustainable tourism in AlUla, focusing on economic growth, community support, and environmental protection.

Sustainable Growth Through Tourism

The World Bank contributes significantly to AlUla’s sustainable regeneration by facilitating tourism development and leveraging its global experience and knowledge.

With the World Bank’s technical assistance programmes, the Saudi government provides essential support to various entities, including RCU, enhancing national and local development efforts.

Empowering the Community

The collaboration between the World Bank and Saudi Arabia spans over 65 years, reflecting a long-standing partnership that has contributed to significant developmental strides.

Building on RCU’s prior engagements with the World Bank, our partnership team has crafted a detailed framework for this new alliance. It focuses on key areas such as developing tourism-centric businesses, facilitating investments, creating jobs, and empowering local communities.

Key Pillars of Collaboration

Our collaboration is structured around four main pillars: Social Sustainability, Natural Sustainability, Cultural Sustainability, and Fiscal Sustainability. We aim to harness the World Bank’s knowledge-management and capacity-building expertise, utilising its vast global network to encourage knowledge exchange and networking.

This partnership is set to drive AlUla towards becoming a leader in sustainable tourism, benefiting both the local community and the broader global tourism landscape.
